About Us

The Henry S. Salt site is run and maintained by the site editors on the behalf of its patrons. However, we welcome and encourage anyone interested in the project to contribute.

Our Objectives

The Henry S. Salt Archive primary objectives is to:

  • Collect all of Henry Salt’s non-book works and make them easily accessible to everyone.
  • Encourage more studies of Henry Salt and the Humanitarian League.
  • Assist students and scholars in their research.
  • Introduce, very briefly, all aspects of Salt’s life, including his writings, campaign work, influences and his circle of friends.
  • To undertake our own research into missing aspects of Salt’s life and work.

However, we are not a replacement for Salt’s books and biographies. We strongly recommend anyone wanting to know more about Salt should buy George Hendrick’s Henry Salt: Humanitarian Reformer and Man of Letters and The Savour of Salt: A Henry Salt Anthology edited by George and Willene Hendrick for starters.

Road Map

What follows next greatly depends on what material is donated to us. We assume that there are still many Salt letters and notes in private collections just gathering dust. These would be a great addition to the archive. In addition we will be expanding the Ernest Bell section in due course.
